Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

JZE16 is true to measured foot size for most young dancers.

The shoe should sit comfortably close around the foot, with relaxed toes and a securely held heel. Adjustable lacing helps accommodate different widths and insteps, while the soft leather gradually moulds with wear.

Because JZE16 has a structured full sole, it can feel firmer when new than a split-sole jazz shoe. Do not automatically size up because of this initial resistance.

Always start from your child's measured foot, rather than their everyday shoe size, and avoid excessive growing room.

Description

The So Danca JZE16 Children's Full Sole Jazz Shoes are a traditional first jazz shoe designed to give young dancers a little more structure beneath the foot. Made from soft leather with adjustable lacing and a continuous rubber sole, they provide a secure, grounded feeling for children learning the foundations of jazz and musical theatre.

Unlike a modern split-sole shoe, JZE16 deliberately has more resistance through the middle of the foot – making it particularly useful for beginners developing strength, control and confidence in class.

Made for First Jazz Steps

The JZE16 is designed around a traditional full rubber sole. Instead of leaving the arch open like a split-sole jazz shoe, the sole continues underneath the entire foot, creating a firmer and more structured feeling as young dancers learn to point, transfer their weight and move across the floor.

The soft leather upper gradually relaxes and moulds around the foot with wear, while the lace-up fastening allows the fit to be adjusted comfortably across different widths and insteps. A soft cotton lining keeps the inside comfortable during regular classes.

Available in Black and White, JZE16 works particularly well where a traditional dance-school uniform or performance colour is required. Always check your dance school's required shoe style and colour before ordering.

Why Do Some Children's Jazz Shoes Have a Full Sole?

A full-sole jazz shoe has rubber running underneath the entire foot, while a split-sole shoe has separate pads beneath the forefoot and heel with a flexible section through the middle.

For a young beginner, the full sole creates more resistance and structure beneath the arch. Instead of the shoe immediately folding with the foot, the dancer has to work more actively through the sole while learning basic pointing, balance and weight transfer.

As dancers progress, many move into a split sole for greater flexibility and articulation. But if your child's teacher has requested a full-sole jazz shoe, JZE16 is designed specifically for that more traditional stage of training.

Dance World Tip

Don't size up because the shoe feels firm when new. JZE16 will naturally feel more resistant than a split-sole jazz shoe because of the rubber running beneath the arch. The leather will soften with wear, but the full sole is designed to retain that more structured feeling.

How Should Children's JZE16 Jazz Shoes Fit?

JZE16 should feel comfortably close around the foot, with the toes able to lie naturally and the heel securely held. The adjustable laces can then be used to refine the fit across the instep and width.

Always measure your child's feet rather than using their current everyday shoe size. School shoes and trainers may already include growing room and are not a reliable starting point for fitting dance shoes.

Start with true to the measured foot size
Secure jazz fit with no unnecessary length

Quick fit check: Lace both shoes comfortably and ask your child to stand, walk and point. Their toes should remain relaxed, the heel should stay securely connected and there should not be excessive shoe extending beyond the toes.

Dance World Size Guide is intended as a helpful starting point. Every child's feet are unique, so fit may vary depending on foot shape, width, growth and personal preference.

A secure fit is especially important in a structured full-sole shoe. Avoid adding unnecessary growing room – excess length can make the shoe feel cumbersome and may make it easier for a young dancer to catch the front during movement.
