For gymnastics leotards, girth is the key measurement when the numbers point to different sizes. If height or chest suggests one size but girth sits closer to the next, choosing the larger size will usually give a more comfortable torso fit.
How to Measure for The Zone Gymnastics Leotards
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.

Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body. The tape should sit comfortably without compressing the chest.
Waist

Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around.
Hips are not included in this particular The Zone size table, but they can still be useful when checking overall body proportions and leotard coverage.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
The Zone uses numbered gymnastics sizes rather than standard clothing sizes. Current girls' styles commonly progress from size 24 for younger children through sizes 26, 28, 30 and 32, with size 34 moving into Women's Small on many models. Use age only as a guide and prioritise actual body measurements, particularly girth, when choosing a leotard.
